Chapter 4
Footprints in the Snow
Emily follows faint, unusual tracks leading away from town. Her heart races with anticipation, fueled by the thrill of a real-life mystery unfolding before her very eyes.
The wind howled a mournful tune, whipping snowflakes into a frenzy that blurred the edges of the world. Inside their cozy cabin, Emily’s mother bustled about, her face etched with worry. “Emily, darling, please, just stay inside. It’s not safe out there. The news said…”
Emily, however, was already at the window, her nose pressed against the cold glass. Her mother’s words, usually so comforting, were like a distant hum against the thrumming excitement in her own chest. For days, the whispers had been growing louder, not just from the news reports but from the hushed conversations of the townspeople. The Foley milliy. A creature of impossible descriptions – a white dinosaur, they said, with horns like ancient trees and wings that could blot out the sun. And the eyes… red, like embers in a dying fire. They said it could create. Create anything. And the news warned everyone to stay indoors.
But Emily didn't see a monster. She saw a mystery. A puzzle begging to be solved. And right now, peeking through the swirling white, she saw something else. Faint, almost swallowed by the snow, were tracks. Not the neat paw prints of a fox or the sturdy tread of a deer. These were… different. Larger. And they led away from the familiar cluster of houses, out into the vast, silent expanse of the snowy wilderness.
