Chapter 15
The First Encounter
A brave villager, drawn by the rumors, spots Emily with the Foley milliy. Instead of panic, they see the gentle interaction and the unusual, charming creatures nearby.
The wind howled a mournful tune, whipping snow into a frenzy that blurred the edges of the world. Inside their cozy cottage, Emily’s mother wrung her hands, her gaze fixed on the swirling white vortex outside the window. “Emily, please, stay inside! It’s too dangerous!” she pleaded, her voice tight with a fear that had become a constant companion since the news reports began. But Emily, her heart thrumming with a mixture of excitement and a quiet certainty, was already pulling on her warmest mittens. She loved her mother dearly, but a mystery, especially one as grand as the Foley milliy, was a siren song she couldn't ignore.
She slipped out the back door, the snow crunching softly under her boots. The town was hushed, the usual cheerful chatter replaced by anxious whispers and the relentless roar of the wind. Most people, just as her mother had urged, were tucked away behind closed doors, their faces pale with apprehension. But Emily, her eyes wide and scanning the snow-laden landscape, felt a strange pull, a sense of destiny guiding her steps. She wasn’t looking for a monster; she was looking for an answer.
She walked for what felt like miles, the snow piling higher around her legs, the world a canvas of white and grey. Then, she saw it. A magnificent, colossal shape against the stark white of a snow-laden fir tree. It was the Foley milliy, just as the news had described, but so much more. Its scales shimmered like freshly fallen snow, a stark contrast to the ruby glow of its eyes, which seemed to hold a profound sadness. Majestic wings, vast and feathered, were tucked close to its powerful body, and two formidable horns curved upwards from its brow, glinting in the dim light. It was breathtaking, terrifying, and strangely beautiful all at once.
