The air in the meadow hummed with a different kind of life today, a gentle thrum that resonated deep within Peacock Cat’s chest. It wasn’t just the buzzing of bees amongst the clover or the rustle of leaves in the ancient oak; it was a symphony of her own making, a melody of acceptance that had been a long time coming. Sunlight, warm and buttery, dappled the grass, illuminating the vibrant blues and whites of her fur, the iridescent sheen of her magnificent tail feathers, and the impossibly tight coils that made her coat a marvel to behold. She stretched, a languid, graceful movement that sent ripples through her fur, each curl catching the light like a tiny, spun-gold jewel.

Beside her, the Child, no longer the tentative whisper of a few chapters ago, sat cross-legged, their gaze fixed on Peacock Cat with an unshakeable fascination. There was no fear in those wide eyes, only a pure, unadulterated wonder that mirrored the blossoming feeling in Peacock Cat’s own heart. The Child had been the first to truly see beyond the whispered fears, beyond the chilling tales of Phantaisa. They had seen her.

“You’re so beautiful, Peacock Cat,” the Child breathed, their voice soft as dandelion fluff. “Your tail… it’s like a rainbow made of dreams.”
