Sunlight, filtered through the intricate latticework of the walls, dappled the worn, smooth floor where Lilly sat, her knees drawn to her chest. Her mother sat beside her, her usual practical demeanor softened by an attentive stillness, her gaze fixed on the Elder. The Elder, whose face was a roadmap of seasons and wisdom, their eyes holding the serene depth of a forest pool, had finally agreed to speak of the true heart of the Phantaisa Culture.
“You see, child,” the Elder began, their voice a gentle murmur like wind through pine needles, “Kelly was not merely a girl who could draw animals into being. She was a conduit. A living bridge between the world of imagination and the tangible reality we inhabit.”
Lilly leaned forward, her breath catching. This was more than she had dared to hope for. The stories had spoken of magic, of a wondrous gift, but the Elder’s words painted a picture far richer, far more profound.
