Lilly’s ten-year-old mind was a whirlwind of unanswered questions, each one a tiny, insistent hummingbird buzzing against the windows of her thoughts. The Phantaisa Culture. The name itself was a whisper of secrets, a melody of the unknown. She’d devoured every scrap of information she could find, poring over faded newspaper clippings in the local library, her fingers tracing the elegant, almost ethereal script that described Emily, the nature girl, and the strange, beautiful tradition born from her memory. Each article painted a picture of a girl who spoke the language of the forest, who could coax life from ink and paper, and whose passing had left an ache so profound it had manifested into a living tribute.

“Mom, please?” Lilly’s plea was a daily refrain, a gentle but unyielding tide against her mother’s cautious shore. It was the morning ritual now, as they sat at the worn oak table, the scent of brewing coffee mingling with the faint, sweet aroma of the honeysuckle climbing the trellis outside. Lilly would push aside her half-eaten toast, her bright, earnest eyes fixed on her mother.

Her mother, Sarah, would sigh, a soft sound of affection tinged with weariness. “Lilly, we’ve talked about this. It’s… it’s a bit unusual, isn’t it? All those people, gathered around a plush toy and candles?” She stirred her coffee, her gaze drifting to the window, as if seeking an answer in the dappled sunlight.
