The red triangle sat on the mantelpiece, a stark, geometric shape against the soft, floral wallpaper of their living room. It was always there, a silent sentinel, and around it, eight meticulously arranged candles cast a warm, flickering glow on evenings when the Phantaisa Culture gathered. Lilly, perched on the edge of the worn armchair, her chin propped on her hands, found her gaze drawn to it again and again. It was more than just a symbol; it was a question mark, a riddle wrapped in velvet and wax.

"Mom," Lilly began, her voice a gentle ripple in the quiet afternoon, "can we go? Just this once? Please?"

Her mother, Sarah, paused in her darning, the needle hovering over a small tear in Lilly’s favorite jumper. She offered a soft smile, but her eyes held a familiar flicker of unease. "Oh, Lilly-bug," she sighed, her voice laced with affection and a touch of weariness. "You know how I feel about those gatherings."
