She stood on the edge of the gathering, her heart a tiny hummingbird trapped within her chest, fluttering with a mixture of awe and anticipation. Around her, a sea of red triangles, each adorned with eight flickering candles, formed a gentle, glowing perimeter. At the center of it all, nestled within its own triangle, was a plush toy, a soft, comforting representation of Emily. Lilly had seen pictures, of course, but holding the reality of it, even at a distance, felt like touching a piece of history, a tangible echo of a life lived vibrantly.

Her mother stood beside her, a reassuring presence, her hand resting lightly on Lilly’s shoulder. “It’s… a lot, isn’t it?” she murmured, her voice soft, almost reverent.

Lilly nodded, her eyes wide, absorbing every detail. The gentle murmur of voices, the scent of beeswax and something faintly floral, like wildflowers after a spring rain, the way the candlelight danced and cast long, flickering shadows that seemed to embrace the figures gathered.
