The sun beat down, a relentless golden hammer on the dusty plains, but Elara Elena barely noticed. Her gaze was fixed on the horizon, a shimmering mirage that promised endless possibilities and, more importantly, the comforting presence of Maple, trotting faithfully a pace behind her. Maple, her German Shepherd, her shadow, her heart in fur. From the moment Elara, a small girl with a head full of dragons and a heart full of dreams, had first seen the fluffy, clumsy puppy, she’d known they were meant to be.
