Chapter 15
Maple, Faithful Companion
Throughout her adventures, Elara is never alone. Her loyal German Shepherd, Maple, is her constant shadow, a furry confidante and protector through every stage of life.
The sun beat down, a relentless golden hammer on the dusty plains, but Elara Elena barely noticed. Her gaze was fixed on the horizon, a shimmering mirage that promised endless possibilities and, more importantly, the comforting presence of Maple, trotting faithfully a pace behind her. Maple, her German Shepherd, her shadow, her heart in fur. She was a creature of boundless loyalty, her amber eyes reflecting the fierce devotion that had become the bedrock of Elara’s fantastical life.
From the moment Elara, a small girl with a head full of dragons and a heart full of dreams, had first seen the fluffy, clumsy puppy, she’d known they were meant to be. Her family, bless their practical hearts, had tried to steer her towards more grounded pursuits, to tame the wild, untamed creature that was her imagination. They’d gently chided her for creating elaborate narratives for her stuffed animals, for whispering secrets to the wind that only she could understand. But Elara’s imagination was a wild horse, and Maple was the wind that carried it.
Even then, Maple had been there, a silent observer of Elara’s nascent storytelling. When Elara would huddle in her room, sketching fantastical beasts onto scraps of paper, Maple would rest her head on Elara’s knee, a soft sigh escaping her. When Elara would whisper tales of brave knights and enchanted forests to the empty air, Maple’s tail would give a gentle thump against the floor, a quiet affirmation. Her family, seeing the bond, had softened, their disapproval giving way to a weary acceptance. They couldn't quite grasp the depth of Elara's inner world, but they could see the pure, unadulterated joy it brought her, and they could see the unwavering love in Maple’s gaze.
