Chapter 15
Jolley's Wish
Jolley shares her deepest wish: to taste her favorite mango ice cream. Mina promises they'll try their best to reach the tree for her.
“What do you wish for, Mina?” Jolley’s voice, a soft echo in the vast, crystalline chamber, was barely a whisper. The air itself seemed to hum with a low, gentle vibration, a lullaby sung by the very stones around them. They had walked for what felt like hours, the path winding and twisting, each turn revealing a new, breathtaking vista of shimmering formations. The light, filtering from some unseen source high above, painted the cave walls in a kaleidoscope of colors, casting long, dancing shadows that seemed to have a life of their own.
Mina paused, her hand reaching out to touch a delicate, ice-like bloom that pulsed with a faint, inner light. Her skepticism, the sturdy shield she’d carried since childhood, had been chipped away, piece by glittering piece, with every step deeper into this magical place. The legend, once a fanciful tale whispered by firelight, now felt as real as the cool, smooth stone beneath her fingertips. “I… I don’t know,” she admitted, her voice catching slightly. It was true. While Jolley’s dreams were always filled with vibrant flavors and sweet treats, Mina’s were more elusive, a quiet yearning for something she couldn’t quite name.
Jolley, however, had no such qualms. Her eyes, wide with wonder, were fixed on a cluster of amethyst-colored crystals that dripped from the ceiling like frozen tears. “I wish for mango ice cream!” she declared, her voice ringing with a sudden, joyous certainty. “The kind that’s super sweet, with chunks of real mango, and it’s so cold it makes your teeth ache in the best way! Grandma Elena’s is good, but this tree… it’s supposed to be the best!” A dreamy smile spread across her face, the kind that always made Mina’s heart ache with a mixture of love and a fierce protectiveness.
