The Maze of Mirrors

The cave splits into multiple paths, lined with reflective crystals that create confusing illusions. Distinguishing the real path from the false becomes a challenge.

The passage ahead shimmered, not with the gentle glow of the bioluminescent moss they’d grown accustomed to, but with a sharp, fractured brilliance. The cave, which had been a single, winding tunnel, now split into three distinct paths, each disappearing into a dazzling kaleidoscope. Mina and Jolley halted, their steps faltering as the light bounced and refracted, creating a disorienting dance of reflections.

"Whoa," Jolley breathed, her eyes wide. "It's like the whole cave is made of mirrors."

Mina squinted, trying to make sense of the fragmented images. Her own face, Jolley’s excited grin, the rough cave walls – they all appeared and disappeared, distorted and multiplied. "It's not mirrors, Jolley, it's crystals. Lots and lots of crystals. They're reflecting the light from the other ones." She reached out a tentative hand, her fingers brushing against a smooth, cool surface. It was indeed crystal, sharp-edged and perfectly clear, but arranged in such a way that it threw back every flicker of light.
