Sometimes, when Jalen and I are playing, twirling around in our matching sparkly dresses, and Mom calls us her “little fairies,” I giggle. Fairies are supposed to be magical, right? And our lives, well, they kind of feel like a fairy tale sometimes. Not the kind with dragons and castles, but the kind that makes you blink and wonder, “Wow, did that really happen?”
Jalen, my super-duper little sister, she’s the best. Even though she’s only six, she’s got this spark in her eyes that’s just like mine. Mom says I’m her role model, which is funny because I’m only eight! But Jalen, she’s faced her own kind of big, scary monster. Remember I told you about her hip discomfort? Well, it wasn’t just a little ouchie. It meant she had to wear special braces sometimes, and it made it hard for her to run as fast as me.
