The Comet Cornered
Finally, Astra and Gleep manage to corner the starlight-snatching comet. It hovers, ready to make its final grab for the kingdom's light.
The rickety spaceship, affectionately (and sometimes not so affectionately) nicknamed 'The Rustbucket' by its current, highly exasperated pilot, Gleep, hurtled through the inky black. Outside, the stars, usually a comforting, familiar presence, seemed to dim, a subtle but terrifying foreshadowing of what was to come. Inside, Princess Astra, or rather, Cadet Astra (a title she wore with more pride than any tiara), bounced with a nervous energy that Gleep found profoundly irritating. He grumbled, his multi-jointed fingers twitching at the controls.
“Are you quite finished with that… *enthusiasm*?” Gleep’s voice, a low rumble like distant asteroids colliding, was laced with his usual brand of alien annoyance. “This isn’t a joyride to the Galactic Gumball Emporium.”
Astra beamed, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of fear and exhilaration. “But Gleep, we’re almost there! I can feel it! The comet! It’s just ahead!” She pointed a gloved finger towards the viewport, where a faint, shimmering trail marked the comet’s path. It was a magnificent, if villainous, spectacle – a celestial snowball streaking through the cosmos, its icy tail laced with stolen starlight, each captured twinkle a tiny, captured sun.
