Others covet the Starfall's power. A shadowy cult, the Obsidian Hand, emerges, seeking to capture Starfallen and harness the celestial energy for their dark ambitions, posing an immediate threat.
The air in the Whispering Woods had grown heavy, not with the dampness of moss and fallen leaves, but with a palpable tension that prickled the skin. Kaelen, his hand still dusted with the remnants of the trial’s earth, felt it most keenly. It was a different kind of pressure than the Starfall’s insistent pull, a cold, calculating presence that slithered at the edges of his awareness. Elara, her brow furrowed, moved with a newfound urgency, her gaze sweeping the shadowed canopy as if expecting unseen eyes. Borin, ever vigilant, kept his broad back to Kaelen, his hand resting on the worn hilt of his axe, his usual gruff demeanor laced with a grim watchfulness.
“They are here,” Elara murmured, her voice barely a breath against the rustling leaves. “The whispers warned of them. The Obsidian Hand.”
Kaelen’s mind, still reeling from the echoes of the trial, struggled to grasp the new threat. The Starfall had guided him, tested him, but this felt… predatory. The Starfall’s purpose, as Elara had explained, was to ascend, to bring balance. This Obsidian Hand, however, sought to twist that power for their own gain.
