The air grew thick with the scent of brimstone and scorching metal as they approached the mountain’s heart. Jagged peaks, like the teeth of some slumbering titan, clawed at a sky bruised with perpetual twilight. The path, if it could be called that, narrowed to a treacherous scramble over obsidian shards that glinted with an inner heat, reflecting the dying embers of an unseen sun. Kaelen, his hand instinctively reaching for the hilt of his sword, felt the familiar thrum of the Starfall within his very bones, a guiding pulse that grew stronger with every step. This was the place the whispers had promised, the Forge of Souls.

“Are you certain of this, Elara?” Borin grunted, his heavy boots crunching on the volcanic scree. His brow was furrowed, his gaze sweeping the desolate landscape with a warrior’s practiced caution. “This place feels wrong. Like a wound that refuses to heal.”

Elara, her silver hair a stark contrast to the dark terrain, nodded slowly. Her eyes, ancient and knowing, seemed to pierce the veil of smoke that coiled around the mountain’s summit. “The Starfall’s guidance is undeniable, Borin. It leads us to the essence of its power, a place where its light can be reforged, amplified. But it is also a place guarded.”
