Elara arrives to find her village besieged. She confronts the shadowy threat head-on, her star birthmark blazing, a beacon of defiance against the encroaching darkness.
The air crackled with an unnatural stillness as Elara, the Traveler by her side, crested the final hill. Below, her village, usually a vibrant tapestry of thatched roofs and smoke plumes, was a scene of unsettling quiet. Not the peaceful quiet of slumber, but the suffocating silence of fear. Shadows, deeper and more menacing than any dusk could cast, clawed at the edges of the familiar houses, distorting their shapes and swallowing the gentle glow of hearth fires. A cold dread, sharper than any she had felt before, coiled in Elara’s stomach.
“They’re here,” she whispered, her voice barely audible above the sudden thumping of her own heart. The Traveler stood beside her, a silhouette against the bruised sky, their presence a steady anchor in the rising tide of her panic. Their gaze swept over the tableau below, unreadable but for a subtle tightening around their eyes.
“Indeed,” the Traveler replied, their voice a low hum that seemed to resonate with the very earth. “The Looming Threat has come to claim what it believes is its due.”
