It was a messenger, a frightened villager with eyes wide with terror, his breath ragged as he stumbled towards her. The Traveler stood beside Elara, their presence a calm anchor in the sudden storm of fear that rippled through her.

“Elara,” the villager gasped, clutching his chest. “The village… it’s under attack! Dark shadows… they’re tearing down houses, stealing… everything!” He looked at her, desperation etched onto his face. “Elder Maeve sent me. She said… she said if anyone could help, it was you.”

The words struck Elara like a physical blow. Her home. Her village. The place she had always felt like an outsider, the place she had longed to escape, yet a place that held the fragile threads of her life. Her hand instinctively went to her forehead, her fingers brushing against the familiar, yet now strangely potent, star-shaped birthmark. It pulsed with a faint, inner warmth, a silent hum beneath her skin that mirrored the frantic beating of her own heart.
