Forced to flee, Anya seeks refuge and begins to understand the scope of her powers and the hidden world connected to the star stickers.
The world outside my window, once so familiar, now felt like a fragile illusion about to shatter. The screech of tires, the harsh glare of headlights cutting through the pre-dawn gloom – it all hammered home the terrifying truth: my ordinary life was gone, a ghost of a memory I clung to with a desperate, trembling hand. I was running. Running from the men in black, their faces grim masks of determination, their pursuit a chilling echo of the whispers I’d heard in the shadows. My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence of the empty streets.
I ducked into a narrow alley, the stench of damp concrete and overflowing bins filling my lungs. My breath hitched, ragged and short. The star sticker, still warm against my forehead, pulsed with a faint, comforting light. It was my anchor, my only connection to… what? To this strange new reality that had crashed into my life with the force of a meteor. I pressed a hand to my temple, trying to steady myself. The visions from before, fractured and fleeting, replayed in my mind: shimmering cities, beings of pure light, and a vast, interconnected web of energy. Was that the world the sticker promised? Or the world that was now hunting me?
A flicker of movement at the alley’s mouth made me freeze. Two figures, silhouetted against the faint streetlights, stood watching. They weren't the men from the car, their postures different, less menacing, more… curious. One of them, a young woman with a shock of bright red hair, stepped forward tentatively. “Anya?” she called out, her voice a tremor of uncertainty.
