The air in the abandoned warehouse hummed with a nervous energy, thick as the dust motes dancing in the slivers of moonlight that pierced the grimy windows. Elias, his face a roadmap of grim determination, traced a diagram on the grimy concrete floor with the toe of his boot. "This is it, Anya. Their central hub. If we can get in, disrupt their network, and expose what they're doing, we can cripple them. At least for a while."

Beside him, The Flicker, usually a whirlwind of frantic energy, stood unnervingly still, her wide eyes fixed on Elias’s drawing. Her small hands balled into fists, the faint shimmer of her power pulsing around her fingertips like trapped fireflies. "But… it’s so big. And they have… guards, right?" Her voice was a tiny tremor against the vast emptiness of the space.

I reached out, my fingers brushing against her arm. Her skin felt cool, almost brittle. “We’ll be careful, Flicker. And we won’t be alone.” I glanced at Elias, then back at her. The words felt hollow, even to me. We were a handful of people against an organization that seemed to have eyes everywhere, that could pluck people from their lives with chilling efficiency. But the alternative – letting them continue, letting them hunt down more like us, more like Flicker, more like me – was unthinkable.
