Chapter 11
Botanical Barricades
Lord Ashworth, undeterred by the lily's silent protest, escalates his efforts to gain access to the garden. He employs a series of subtle maneuvers, from veiled threats about property lines to feigned offers of 'assistance' in maintaining the grounds. Elara, now keenly aware of the garden's vulnerability and armed with Genevieve's insights, finds herself using her growing understanding of the plants and the terrain to cleverly thwart his intrusions, creating subtle obstacles and misdirections.
Elara surveyed her domain, or rather, the domain that Lord Ashworth seemed to believe was *his* domain, which was, of course, the entire universe, but more pressingly, her ridiculously overgrown, secret garden. "My dear Elara," he'd begun, his voice dripping with the kind of false concern usually reserved for discussing the declining thread count of a duke's bedding. "I couldn't help but notice the… *vigorous* nature of your foliage. Truly, a sight to behold. But I worry. Such unruly growth can be a haven for pests, you know. And one simply *must* maintain a certain aesthetic. My own grounds, as you've no doubt observed, are a testament to disciplined beauty."
