The air in the town felt suddenly, wonderfully bright, as if the sun had decided to paint everything with an extra-generous brushstroke. Elina, with Lumina a little steadier beside her, took a deep, happy breath. The familiar scent of baked bread and blooming roses, usually so comforting, now seemed to sing with a new vibrancy. It was the song of the *now*, a melody she’d almost forgotten in the swirling colors of the staircase.

As they walked, Lumina’s colors, though still muted, seemed to hold a little more substance, a faint shimmer like moonlight on water. Elina squeezed Lumina’s hand, a silent promise that the light they’d found together would not be forgotten. The townsfolk, going about their day, offered smiles that were warm and genuine, each one a little beacon. Elina returned their smiles, a deep sense of belonging settling in her chest like a warm stone. She understood now, with a clarity that felt as bright as the midday sun, why Elder Rowan’s eyes held such a gentle knowing. He knew the value of this shared warmth.

When they reached the familiar square, where children’s laughter bubbled like a clear stream, Elina paused. “Look, Lumina,” she said softly, pointing to a group of children playing with a brightly colored ball. “See how they share? That’s what makes our town so special.” Lumina nodded, a flicker of something akin to hope dancing in their wide, pale eyes. They had seen so much sadness on the stairs, so many shades of regret and longing, that the simple, unadulterated joy of these children felt like a miracle.
