Chapter 18
The Cycle's Gentle Turn
Elina understands the staircase isn't evil, but a reflection of life's complexities. It's a place to learn, not to be consumed. The cycle can be navigated with awareness.
Elina stood at the foot of the spiral staircase, her heart a fluttery butterfly in her chest. The colors, once so overwhelming, now seemed to hum with a softer, more knowing light. Lumina, perched on the step beside her, was a little brighter now. The soft pink of Elina’s shared courage had settled into Lumina’s muted blues and greens, giving them a gentle, hopeful sheen. They still flinched at the deeper, more melancholic swirls of color that pulsed intermittently on the walls, the echoes of old regrets, but their fear was no longer paralyzing.
