The staircase spiraled downwards, a ribbon of shifting light and color that seemed to breathe with a life of its own. Each step Elina took was met not with the solid thud of wood or stone, but with a sigh, a murmur, a fleeting image that shimmered and then dissolved like morning mist. She had descended further than she ever had before, the familiar warmth of her community fading to a distant hum, replaced by the intoxicating, yet unsettling, kaleidoscope of forgotten moments.

It was here, in this hushed, vibrant abyss, that Elina began to see things differently. Not just the memories of others, but reflections that felt strangely, intimately her own. The girl was her, yet not her. A possibility.

Then, a flash of emerald green, so bright it made her blink. It spoke of a vibrant joy, a shared laugh that had been stifled, a moment of spontaneous delight that had been swallowed by doubt. Elina saw herself, or a version of herself, hesitating, her hand reaching out to join a game, only to pull back, a whisper of "what if" echoing in the vibrant green. The green shimmered, then bled into a muddy brown, the color of unspoken apologies.
