Chapter 11
The Colors of Joy
Elina actively seeks out the positive memories on the stairs – moments of pure happiness. She learns these, too, can be cherished without becoming lost, adding to her own inner light.
Elina found herself drawn back to the whispering staircase, a place that had once seemed so mysterious and a little frightening. Now, it felt like a secret garden, filled with stories waiting to be discovered. She remembered Lumina, the small, color-drained creature who had been so afraid of the swirling past. Elina had promised to help, and she knew that the staircase held not just sadness and regret, but also laughter and sunshine.
With a deep breath, Elina stepped onto the first shimmering step. The usual cool, damp air of the staircase seemed to hum with a different energy today. Instead of the muted blues and purples of sorrow that she had encountered before, tendrils of bright, sunny yellow and sky blue began to weave around her. It was as if the staircase itself was responding to her intention, her hopeful heart.
She descended, her footsteps soft on the spiraling planks. The whispers here were different too. They weren’t heavy sighs of what-ifs or mournful echoes of lost opportunities. These were light, airy sounds, like the tinkling of bells or the giggling of children playing in a sun-drenched meadow. Elina closed her eyes for a moment, letting the sound wash over her. She saw, in her mind’s eye, flashes of pure, unadulterated joy. A child’s delighted squeal as they discovered a hidden ladybug, the warm embrace of a grandparent, the taste of a perfectly ripe berry on a summer’s day.
