Parting Ways, Stronger Together

As Katie's parents arrive to pick her up, the girls share a warm hug. They promise to talk soon and plan their next hangout, their friendship reaffirmed and ready for whatever comes next.

The last rays of the morning sun peeked through the curtains, painting soft stripes across my bedroom floor. It was the kind of light that made everything feel calm and peaceful, a stark contrast to the whirlwind of emotions I’d felt just hours before. Katie was still asleep in her sleeping bag, her breathing soft and even. I watched her for a moment, a gentle smile spreading across my face. It had been a crazy night, full of giggles and whispers, secrets and a big, fat argument, but we’d made it through. And somehow, we were stronger for it.

A soft rustle from downstairs signaled that Katie’s parents were awake. My heart gave a little flutter. The sleepover was officially coming to an end. I nudged Katie awake, her eyes blinking open slowly.

“Morning,” she mumbled, stretching and letting out a big yawn.
