Breakfast Reconciliation
Over breakfast, they chat easily, their earlier argument a distant memory. They might even joke about James, now that the pressure is off. Their friendship feels solid and secure again.
The smell of sizzling bacon and fluffy pancakes filled my kitchen, a comforting aroma that always made mornings feel special. Sunlight streamed through the window, painting golden stripes across the worn linoleum floor. Katie was already at the table, happily flipping through a magazine, her bright pink pajamas a cheerful contrast to the early morning light. It felt like a lifetime ago that we’d been huddled in my bedroom, tears and hurt feelings hanging heavy in the air. Now, as I placed a stack of pancakes in front of her, a quiet ease settled between us.
“Morning, sleepyhead,” she grinned, pushing a stray curl behind her ear. “You make the best pancakes. Mine never turn out this fluffy.”
I shrugged, a small smile playing on my lips. “It’s all about the buttermilk. And maybe a little bit of magic.”
