Chapter 13
Tomas's Impulsive Act
Tomas, wanting to help secure the shelter, impulsively tries to move a heavy stone, nearly revealing his secret fear about the heirloom. He’s saved by his friends.
The air, usually alive with the cheerful chatter of the village and the distant bleating of sheep, had grown heavy. It pressed down on everything, a thick, silent blanket that muffled even the rustling leaves. Lina, her fingers smudged with charcoal, sat cross-legged in her favorite spot by the ancient oak, her sketchbook open on her lap. The sky was a bruised purple, a color she’d never seen before, and the cloud, that monstrous, swirling thing, was even closer now. It looked like a giant, angry fist clenched against the horizon.
Tomas, his face flushed with a nervous energy that always seemed to bubble just beneath his skin, bounced a smooth, grey stone against his palm. "It's still just a cloud, Lina," he insisted, though his voice lacked its usual conviction. "A big one, sure, but just a cloud."
Anya, her eyes wide and fixed on the unsettling sky, shook her head. "It feels different, Tomas," she murmured, her voice barely a whisper. "It feels… sad. And angry." She hugged her knees to her chest, her small frame trembling slightly. She could feel the village’s unease like a physical ache, a discord humming beneath the surface of their daily lives.
