Chapter 7
Justice at Blackwood
The case is officially closed. Victoria Sterling is arrested and convicted, her sentence to be served at Blackwood State Prison. Julian and Chloe leave Crimson Manor, reflecting on the darkness hidden beneath its grand exterior.
The air in the solicitor’s office was thick with the scent of old paper and stale pipe smoke, a stark contrast to the crisp, almost biting autumn air that clung to our coats as we stepped back out onto the cobbled street. Blackwood State Prison loomed in the distance, a grim silhouette against the bruised twilight sky, its imposing walls a stark reminder of the finality that had settled over Crimson Manor. Justice, it seemed, had finally been served, though the taste it left was far from sweet.
“A life for a life,” Chloe murmured, her voice barely a whisper as she adjusted the collar of her coat. The usual spark in her eyes was muted, replaced by a thoughtful, almost somber glint. “Or perhaps, a life for many shattered ones.”

Lady Victoria, once the elegant mistress of Crimson Manor, was now a prisoner within the formidable walls of Blackwood, her beauty and charm rendered useless against the unyielding machinery of the law. The confession, delivered with a chillingly calm detachment in the study at Crimson Manor, still echoed in my mind. The desperation born of crippling debt, the clandestine affair with a man who promised escape, the cold, calculated decision to silence her husband – it was a tapestry woven with threads of deceit and desperation, a stark testament to the dark undercurrents that could flow beneath even the most polished surfaces.
