The air in the small, sterile laboratory felt thick with unspoken accusations. Outside, the late afternoon sun, usually a welcome guest at Crimson Manor, seemed to cast a sickly yellow pall over the meticulously kept grounds. Inside, however, the light was harsh, clinical, and unforgiving. Dr. Alistair Finch, a man whose white coat seemed to have absorbed the very essence of scientific detachment, gestured towards a series of vials and charts spread across a gleaming steel counter.

"As I suspected, Mr. Vance," Dr. Finch began, his voice a low murmur that barely disturbed the hushed atmosphere, "the toxicology report is quite conclusive. Lord William Sterling did not succumb to a mere fall."

I leaned closer, my eyes scanning the precise, almost artistic, arrangement of data. Chloe stood beside me, her brow furrowed in concentration, her gaze sharp and unwavering as she absorbed every detail. The faint scent of formaldehyde and something subtly metallic hung in the air, a stark contrast to the floral perfumes and old wood that usually permeated Crimson Manor.
