The Sire's Warning
Silas, Ash's ancient sire, observes the dangerous liaison. He offers cryptic warnings about mortal attachments and the perils of losing control.
The air in Ash’s study was perpetually thick with the scent of old paper and a subtle, metallic tang that only I, and perhaps Silas, could truly discern. Tonight, however, the usual somber atmosphere was laced with a new tension, a quiet hum of disquiet that seemed to emanate from the very shadows themselves. Silas stood by the grand oak desk, his silhouette stark against the moonlight filtering through the tall, arched window. He was a monument to ages, his stillness a testament to a patience I had long forgotten how to possess.
He hadn't spoken for a good ten minutes, his gaze fixed on some unseen point beyond the room, beyond the manor, beyond the mortal world that thrummed so close to our doorstep. I was perched on the edge of my own chair, the leather cool beneath my hands, my mind a restless ocean of thoughts and images, all of them, inevitably, leading back to Angie.
"You are playing with fire, Ash," Silas finally said, his voice a low rumble, like stones shifting in the depths of the earth. It held no accusation, only a profound, weary observation.
