The air in the chamber was thick, heavy with the scent of ancient dust and something else, something primal that clung to the stone walls like a second skin. It was the scent of permanence, of centuries etched into the very marrow of this place, and now, it was the scent of us. My Angie. My queen. The word felt foreign on my tongue, yet utterly, undeniably right.

She stood before me, bathed in the low, flickering light of the candelabra, her eyes—those luminous pools that had drawn me from the shadows of my existence—wide with a mixture of awe and a tremor of something I recognized as fear. But it was a fear that was being slowly, deliciously, consumed by adoration. My Angie. She was mine. Every breath she took, every beat of her mortal heart, was now mine to command, mine to protect, mine to keep.

My gaze swept over her, a predator cataloging its prize. The delicate curve of her throat, the soft swell of her breast beneath the simple, dark fabric I’d chosen for her, the way her hair, the color of midnight spun with moonlight, cascaded around her shoulders. She was exquisite. A fragile, mortal masterpiece, now bound to an immortal darkness. And I, Ash, her master, her lover, her possessor, would ensure no harm ever touched her. Not from the world, and certainly not from myself.
