The air in the abandoned cathedral was thick with the scent of decay and something far more ancient, a musk that clung to the stone and whispered of centuries of forgotten rites. Lysandra stood at the altar, bathed in the ethereal glow of moonlight that sliced through the shattered stained glass, a silhouette of predatory grace. Her eyes, the colour of polished obsidian, fixed on me as I stepped from the deeper shadows, the heavy cloak clinging to my shoulders like a second skin.

"Ash," her voice, a silken caress laced with venom, echoed in the cavernous space. "You finally grace us with your presence. I was beginning to wonder if your newfound... affection had rendered you immobile."

I ignored the barb, my gaze sweeping over her. She was as I remembered, an embodiment of the night's cruel beauty, her dark hair cascading around sharp, aristocratic features. The power radiating from her was a palpable thing, a coiled serpent ready to strike. She was the architect of the whispers, the unseen hand that had been nudging danger towards Angie’s doorstep.
