James, using his observation skills, realizes the presence feeds on fear. He must guide his friends to control their emotions to weaken it.
The air in the corridor was thick, not with dust, but with a palpable sense of dread that clung to my skin like a damp shroud. It was the kind of silence that wasn't empty, but pregnant with unspoken horrors, a silence that screamed. Liam, usually the first to crack a joke or charge headfirst into a situation, was unnervingly still, his eyes wide, darting from one shadowy corner to the next. Chloe, ever the pragmatist, gripped my arm, her knuckles white, her breath coming in shallow gasps.
“James,” she whispered, her voice barely a tremor. “What is this place?”
I didn’t have an answer, not a real one. Not yet. But something was stirring within me, a cold, hard certainty that had begun to coalesce in the echoing chambers of my mind. The logs, the fragmented whispers of the past, the chilling sensations that had been prickling at us since we’d stumbled through that rusted gate – it all pointed to one undeniable truth. This wasn’t just an abandoned facility. It was a mausoleum of suffering, and something, some… *thing*, was still very much alive within its decaying walls.
