Emily's Trembling Observation
Emily, anxious and observant, replays every detail of the past. She saw something, a fleeting moment that could be crucial, but fear paralyzes her. Her loyalty is tested by the escalating danger.
Emily’s world had shrunk to the size of her own trembling hands. Each finger, a testament to her growing unease, seemed to twitch with a life of its own. The sterile scent of Detective Harding’s office, a cloying mix of disinfectant and stale coffee, did little to soothe the persistent knot of anxiety tightening in her chest. She traced the rim of the chipped mug on the table, the ceramic cool against her skin, a stark contrast to the heat that had begun to bloom in her cheeks.
“Ms. Carter,” Detective Harding’s voice was steady, a calm anchor in the churning sea of Emily’s thoughts. “You mentioned you were… near the park the evening Alex was last seen?”
Emily’s gaze flickered up, meeting the detective’s shrewd, assessing eyes. They were kind, yes, but also held a relentless focus that made Emily feel as though her deepest, most terrifying secrets were being peeled back layer by layer. She swallowed, the sound unnaturally loud in the hushed room.
