It clung to my fur, a testament to the battle that had raged and ended, not with a whimper, but with a roar that had echoed from the deepest pits of my soul. I stood amidst the aftermath, my pack mates milling about, their gazes a mixture of awe and apprehension. They had seen. They had all seen. The inferno that had erupted from my paws, the blinding light that had pulsed from my very being, the chilling whispers that had slithered through the trees, all culminating in the swift, decisive end of the threat that had loomed over us.
My parents, Thistle and Bean, stood apart, their faces etched with a familiar disapproval that even victory couldn't erase. Their eyes, usually sharp and commanding, flickered with something akin to unease as they swept over me, a silent judgment passing between them. They had witnessed my power, the raw, untamed force that had surged through me, but it was a power they couldn’t comprehend, a power that defied their rigid understanding of pack law and lineage. It was a power that had saved them, saved all of us, yet it was a power that seemed to offend them.
“Leah,” my father’s voice, usually a booming command, was tight, strained. “You… you were reckless.”
