The wind howled, a mournful dirge that whipped my hair across my face, stinging my eyes. We were at the precipice, the very edge of what Silas had promised was the world’s end. But instead of an abyss, we found… more. More of the same, yet subtly, terrifyingly different. The sky, a bruised purple, pulsed with an unnatural light, and the horizon, that ever-shifting line that had consumed my life, was now a chaotic scribble, a painter’s frantic mistake.

“It’s… it’s not what I expected,” Maya stammered, her voice barely a whisper against the gale. Her usual optimism had curdled into a gnawing fear. Beside her, the other members of Silas’s flock huddled together, their faces a mixture of awe and dread. They had followed him here, to this desolate, windswept plateau, clinging to his every word, their faith a fragile shield against the encroaching strangeness.

Silas, however, stood apart, his arms spread wide, a triumphant, almost manic grin splitting his face. He was bathed in the eerie light, his silhouette a stark, defiant figure against the roiling sky. “Expected? My dear Maya, what you *expected* was the lie they fed you. This,” he gestured wildly, “this is the truth! The *real* truth!”
