The air, thick with a tension that had been building for days, finally snapped. It wasn't a gradual fraying, but a violent tear, a visceral rip through the very fabric of our reality. We were standing at what Silas had declared the precipice, the very edge of the disc, where the celestial dome supposedly met its end. The horizon, usually a stark, unwavering line, had begun to shimmer, not with the usual subtle shifts, but with an aggressive, nauseating wobble. It was like looking through a heat haze on overdrive, except the heat was coming from *within* the world, not from above.
"It's happening!" Silas bellowed, his voice cracking with a mixture of triumph and something else I couldn’t quite place – a tremor of fear, perhaps, buried deep beneath his usual bombast. He pointed a trembling finger towards the distorted horizon. "The veil is thinning! The Architect is revealing His masterpiece!"
Maya stood beside me, her eyes wide, her usual effervescence replaced by a stunned silence. She clutched my arm, her nails digging into my skin. "Gracie… what is that?" Her voice was a mere whisper, lost in the rising hum that vibrated through the ground, through our very bones.
