The wind whipped my hair across my face, stinging my eyes, but I didn’t dare to blink. Not now. Not when the world was finally, truly beginning to unfurl. Dr. Thorne’s words, a torrent of cosmic physics and interdimensional jargon, still echoed in my ears, a stark contrast to the comfortable, solid certainty of the flat earth I’d clung to for so long. He’d spoken of membranes, of vibrations, of realities stacked like translucent pages, each one a universe unto itself. And Silas… Silas had promised the edge. He’d promised proof. But the proof that was now unfurling before me was of a different order entirely.
The “edge” we’d sought, the place where the ice wall supposedly met the void, had been a mirage. Not a physical one, but a conceptual one. Silas’s grand pronouncements, his unwavering faith in the tangible boundary of our world, had dissolved into a symphony of impossible colors and geometries that defied all logic. We hadn’t reached an edge; we’d punched through a veil.
Maya stood beside me, her usual bright optimism muted by a dawning apprehension. Her hand, once steady on my arm, now trembled slightly. “Gracie,” she whispered, her voice barely audible above the strange, resonant hum that seemed to emanate from the very air around us. “What… what is this?”
