The air grew thin and sharp, carrying with it the scent of ancient stone and a silence so profound it felt like a presence. Lyra’s boots crunched on gravel that had not been disturbed in centuries, each step a soft punctuation in the vast quiet. Kael walked beside her, his hand resting lightly on the worn leather of his satchel, his gaze scanning the towering, moss-draped rocks that pressed in on either side of the narrow pass. They had followed the faded map, a tapestry of cryptic symbols and faded ink, for days, the familiar ache of weariness settling into their bones like a second skin.

“Are you sure about this, Lyra?” Kael’s voice was a low murmur, careful not to break the spell of the place. “The map… it speaks of guardians, of trials. Not just a path.”

Lyra nodded, her heart thrumming a nervous rhythm against her ribs. “The legend said the Sunstone is not easily found. It requires more than just a journey.” She remembered the hushed whispers of her grandmother, tales of old magic and the keepers of sacred places. This was where those stories lived.
