The air in the subterranean chamber thrummed, a palpable vibration that settled deep within my bones. It was a place that felt ancient, imbued with a silence that had been broken only by the slow drip of unseen water and the ragged sound of my own breathing. Above, I knew, the celestial bodies were performing their cosmic ballet, their alignment a key I’d only begun to understand through the cryptic scrawls of the journal. The journal. It lay heavy in my satchel, a beacon and a curse, its secrets now poised to spill into reality.

He’d spoken of the ‘Ritual of Shadows,’ a ceremony designed to harness the artifact’s latent energies, an event that occurred only when the stars were in a specific, potent configuration. He’d also warned of Silas, of his ambition, of his belief that such power should not be wielded by the unworthy. And ‘unworthy,’ I suspected, meant anyone who wasn’t Silas Blackwood.
