Chapter 10
The Mark of the Serpent
A recurring symbol in the journal – a coiled serpent – appeared on a hidden map fragment found in the secret chamber. This symbol, Finch explained, was associated with a clandestine society obsessed with ancient power. Their reach was far greater than I imagined.

“The serpent,” Professor Finch’s voice, a low rumble, broke the silence. He stood a few paces behind me, his silhouette framed by the faint glow of my lantern. He’d followed me, of course. He always seemed to be a step behind, or perhaps, a step ahead. His presence, once a source of comfort, now felt like a persistent shadow, his erudition a double-edged sword.
