The air in the cavern was thick, a palpable presence that clung to Zelphir’s skin like a shroud. It pulsed with a life of its own, a low thrumming that resonated deep within his bones. Shadows, once mere absences of light, now writhed and coiled around him, obedient tendrils of his burgeoning power. He extended a hand, and the darkness coalesced, forming fleeting shapes – claws, wings, faces contorted in silent screams. A perverse thrill coursed through him, a heady intoxication that drowned out the gnawing unease.

It clung to him, a brand seared onto his soul, each syllable a whisper of his potential doom. Was this it? Was this the embrace the Oracle spoke of? Was he already succumbing, already becoming the harbinger of the world’s end?
