Chapter 20
The Monarch's Dawn
The story concludes with the brothers' choice, leaving the world's fate hanging in the balance. The true nature of the Shadow Monarch and the dawn of twilight are revealed.
The air itself seemed to hold its breath, a pregnant pause before the inevitable. Zelphir stood, a figure etched in the deepening gloom, his shadow magic coiling around him like a restless serpent. Vaeltharion, a beacon of defiant light, stood opposite, his form a stark contrast against the encroaching darkness. The Oracle of Whispers, a silhouette of veiled secrets, watched from the periphery, her ancient eyes alight with a chilling anticipation. Elder Lyra, her face etched with the sorrow of ages, observed the unfolding tableau, a silent prayer on her lips. The Twilight's Edge had been crossed, and now, the Monarch's Dawn was upon them.
"It is time," the Oracle's voice, a silken caress that carried the weight of millennia, echoed in the charged atmosphere. "The prophecy demands its due. The Shadow Monarch shall rise, and the world shall know eternal twilight."
Zelphir’s gaze, sharp and intense, flickered between his brother and the Oracle. The words, though familiar, now carried a visceral weight, a promise of power and oblivion he had both craved and feared. His shadow magic pulsed, a living entity within him, urging him forward, whispering temptations of ultimate control, of dominion over the very fabric of existence. He felt the pull, a siren song that promised an end to the gnawing uncertainty, an end to the constant struggle against his own volatile nature. To be the Monarch, to wield such power without restraint, it was a terrifying, exhilarating prospect.
