The air in the chamber crackled, not with the usual hum of nascent magic, but with a tension that vibrated deeper, a discordance born of blood and power. Zelphir, his form a shifting silhouette against the dimming light of their sanctuary, paced like a caged predator. His shadow-magic, usually a cloak of comforting darkness, now writhed around him, tendrils lashing out at the very stones of their refuge. Across the chamber, Vaeltharion sat, his posture rigid, the soft luminescence that emanated from him a stark counterpoint to Zelphir’s turmoil. His hands, usually steady when coaxing life from barren soil, were clenched tight, the knuckles white.

"You speak of control," Zelphir spat, his voice a low growl that seemed to echo from the very depths of the earth. "Control? As if this power were a mere trinket to be polished and placed upon a shelf. It is a tempest, Vaeltharion, a raging inferno, and you would chain it with silken threads?"

Vaeltharion’s gaze, usually serene, held a flicker of pain. "And you would unleash it, Zelphir? Let it consume everything? Is that your answer to the prophecy? To become the very thing it foretells?"
