Chapter 8
First Steps on Lumina
Kelly names the planet Lumina. She cautiously explores, marveling at the vibrant, self-made flora and fauna. She begins to understand the planet's unique ability to manifest thoughts into reality.
Kelly’s small feet, still damp from the dewy grass of the previous night, padded softly across the strange, spongy ground. She’d woken with a jolt, the metallic hum of the spaceship a dull thrum beneath her. For a moment, she’d panicked, a cold knot of fear tightening in her stomach. But the fear, like a fleeting shadow, had been quickly chased away by a surge of something new, something akin to wonder. The world outside the viewport, the world she’d landed in, was unlike anything she could have ever imagined.
She’d watched, mesmerized, as the viewport had cleared, revealing a landscape painted with colors that didn’t exist in her crayon box. Trees with leaves like spun glass, flowers that pulsed with their own soft light, and creatures that flitted through the air like jeweled hummingbirds. It was all so… vibrant. So alive. And it was all so new. She’d whispered the first word that came to mind, a soft, breathy sound that seemed to fit the ethereal glow of it all. “Lumina,” she’d murmured, testing the sound on her tongue. Lumina. The planet of light. It felt right.
Carefully, she’d unbuckled herself from the strange, form-fitting seat and pushed open the hatch. The air, surprisingly, was breathable, carrying a scent like a thousand blooming gardens mixed with a hint of something wild and earthy. She stepped out, her worn sneakers sinking slightly into the spongy terrain. It felt springy, like walking on a giant moss ball.
