The air in Elias Vance’s study felt thick with the dust of ages, a tangible presence that clung to the towering shelves of books and the cluttered surfaces of his desk. Sunlight, strained through a grimy windowpane, illuminated motes dancing in the stillness, each one a tiny, silent witness to countless hours of solitary scholarship.
