The air inside the chamber was thick with the scent of dust and forgotten time. It clung to Alex’s clothes, to their skin, a palpable weight pressing in from all sides. The stone walls, slick with an ancient moisture, seemed to absorb the beam of Alex's flashlight, swallowing the light rather than reflecting it.
