The air in the library, usually a comforting embrace of aged paper and quiet contemplation, had begun to feel thin and watchful. Isaac carried the weight of it, a subtle prickle on his skin that refused to subside. He’d dismissed it at first, attributing it to the late hours and the mounting pressure of his investigation. But now, it felt like a persistent hum beneath the surface of his awareness, a silent observer in his solitary pursuit. He found himself glancing over his shoulder more often than was natural, his gaze lingering on figures that seemed too still, too present, in the periphery of his vision.

He was poring over a particularly dense volume on early Christian apocrypha, the faded ink a testament to centuries of silence. The text spoke of a period of Christ’s life that was conspicuously absent from the canonical Gospels, a period often referred to as the "lost years." It was here, amidst the scholarly debates and fragmented accounts, that Isaac felt the tendrils of something more, something deliberately obscured. He traced a passage with his finger, a footnote hinting at a monastic order that claimed to possess original teachings, a claim dismissed by mainstream historians as mere legend.

A soft clearing of a throat behind him made him jump, his heart lurching. He turned to see a librarian, a woman with kind eyes and a perpetually pursed mouth, holding a stack of returned books. “Everything alright, Mr. Bwalya?” she asked, her voice a gentle murmur.
