A chasm blocks their path. Barnaby expects them to find a hidden bridge. Maya, inspired by Leo's optimism, takes a spontaneous leap of faith, trusting her instincts and landing safely, surprising herself.

The air in the Secret Forest, usually thick with the scent of damp earth and ancient moss, now carried a distinct tang of… well, nothing particularly special. Leo, ever the optimist, sniffed the air with the intense concentration of a bloodhound on the trail of a dropped biscuit. "It smells… like forest," he declared, a hint of disappointment in his voice.

Maya, ever the pragmatist, rolled her eyes, though a small smile played on her lips. "What else would it smell like, Leo? Pine needles and badger musk? We're in a forest. A secret one, yes, but still a forest."

They stood at the edge of a chasm that had materialized with the abruptness of a magician pulling a rabbit from a hat. It wasn't a vast, terrifying abyss, but it was wide enough to make Leo’s stomach do a little flip-flop, and wide enough to make Maya’s brow furrow in thought. The bottom was lost in a hazy green gloom, and the only sound was the faint echo of water, suggesting a stream or perhaps a very, very sad waterfall far below.
