The air in the crumbling villa hung thick and heavy, not just with the scent of ancient dust and sea salt, but with the unspoken words that had been swirling between Elias and Elara for hours. Sunlight, bleached by the Santorini sky, streamed through a fractured windowpane, illuminating motes of dust dancing in the charged silence. Elias stood by a marble fragment, his hands clenched, the silver streak in his hair catching the light like a sliver of moonlight. His gaze, usually so steady, flickered with a storm of hurt and disbelief.

"Tell me, Elara," he finally managed, his voice rough, stripped of its usual artistic resonance. "Tell me why. Why all of this?"

Elara, perched on a fallen stone, her usual vibrant energy dimmed, looked less like a captivating enigma and more like a trapped bird. Her eyes, the color of the deep Aegean, were shadowed with a weariness Elias had never seen before. She traced the rough surface of the stone beneath her fingers, her movements hesitant.
