Pip, a whirlwind of soft brown fur and boundless curiosity, was Elara’s most prized possession, even more so than the shimmering vials lining her workshop. His tiny nose, a marvel of olfactory engineering, twitched incessantly, a miniature compass guiding them through the riotous symphony of the Grand Bazaar. Elara held her breath, her own senses straining, trying to catch the faintest whisper of the stolen scent. It was like chasing a ghost, a memory of courage now tainted with something unsettling.

It was the scent of her brother Liam’s amplified selfishness, the one that had fractured their family. And woven through it, faint but distinct, was another scent, one that prickled Elara’s skin with a dawning suspicion: the sharp, metallic tang of envy.
